Curriculum Overview

Key Stage 3
Throughout Key Stage Three students follow the
Kerboodle programme

Year 7
At the start of the year students will explore what History is. They will then study topics covering the period from pre-history to 1509. They will study changes in the lives of people living in the Ice Age, Medieval and Early Modern Britain. Students will analyse the significance of events such as the development of Britain, the Battle of Hastings, Black Death and the formation Parliament. Throughout Year 7 students will start to develop the skills of source analysis and their understanding of change and continuity, significance and explanation.


Year 8
Throughout Year 8 students will study the period 1509-1745. They will analyse social, political and religious changes across the period. They will study such topics as the Tudors, Stuarts and the Georgians. Students will also analyse the importance of such events as the Gunpowder Plot, the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London. They will continue to develop their skills of source analysis as will as their understanding of change and continuity across time and significance.


Year 9
During Year 9 students will study the period 1745 to the present day. They will study such topics as the Industrial Revolution, Slavery, the British Empire, World War One, World War Two, the Holocaust and the Cold War. Students will focus in on the skills needed for GCSE History such as interpretation, explanation, analysis, significance and writing a balance argument.
